Recycle Program:
Helping the environment and the animals at the same time.

As another source of income, the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter recycles aluminum cans. It may be a strangely well-kept secret about the shelter. We’re not sure many people realize we do that. We have a little fenced area beside our garage for aluminum cans, which we take to recycle. We just ask that you put them in a bag and tie the bag shut so we’re not chasing Pepsi, Coke and beer cans all over the parking lot.

Aluminum cans bring a surprising amount of money to the animal shelter on a monthly basis. So please feel free to collect your aluminum cans and bring them out to the shelter. You’ll be helping the environment and homeless animals at the same time.

We also recycle ink cartridges from printers and cell phones. So drop your old products off to the shelter whenever you get a chance.

Don’t forget that our Thrift Stores are also in the business of recycling. All of the items up for sale in both our stores have been donated thanks to the generosity of this community. The donated items are then resold at an amazing discount and the money funnels right back into the animal shelter. With this “recycling” program, our thrift stores have found clothing that is clean, pressed, and folded, and is appropriate to the season. Toys are bagged as sets, with all pieces accounted for. Appliances are in working order. Such donations can be put out for sale immediately, and most often are sold the same day. Here are some thoughts on donating:

**Bring all items through the front door. It’s helpful to space your donations, bringing only 5 boxes or bags on any given day. (We don’t have much storage space.)

**We cannot use wire hangers; they tangle on the racks.

**The items we can accept are: Clothing in season Household Items Decorations Toys Electronics Appliances (any size) Furniture Odds & Ends Sporting Equipment Jewelry CD’s & Videotapes
